Alina Bauer (D/B; violin)

Like many young German violinists, Alina started off with a classical training. During her school years she participated in various orchestras, choirs, and big-band projects such as the European Youth Orchestra, the Hessische Landes Sinfonieorchester and the Orchestra of the Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt.
From 2005 till 2010 she studied musicology, music pedagogy and sociology at the University in Gießen. Her focus on klezmer began in 2007 with the establishment of her band Bakad Kapelye and her first visit to Yiddish Summer Weimar in 2008. Bakad Kapelye integrates traditional klezmer, music from other European folk traditions, South American grooves, modal jazz and free improvisation.
Her interest in improvisation and jazz grew as well over the years and she studied jazz violin at the Conservatory in Brussels (2013). She has worked actively with the bands Belleville Swing Club and The String Carpet.
Since 2005 Alina has been sharing her knowledge about violin and music in general with numerous students. She has worked at music schools in Gießen and Berlin and taught at klezmer workshops in Gent (Belgium). Since last school year she has been teaching music theory and ear training at the Frédéric Chopin Muziekakademie in Brussels.
