Efrat Gal-Ed, painter and author, has accomplished something remarkable in her biography of Itzik Manger (1901-1969), recently published by the Jewish Publishing House within the Suhrkamp Publishing House. Not only does she introduce us to one of the greatest poets of the Yiddish language, she interprets him above all as a European poet and frames his life story in terms of the secular Jewish culture of Eastern Europe. Efrat Gal-Ed presents this impressive work, whose text setting takes it direction from the Talmud. In cooperation with the Suhrkamp Publishing House.
